Olympic Moments Abebe Bikila, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, and Ali vs. Foreman
Abebe Bikila ran the marathon barefoot in 1960. This event is considered as the ââ¬Å"greatest symbol of the new, rejuvenated, post-Fascist countryâ⬠(Martin ââ¬Å"Abebe Bikilaâ⬠).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Olympic Moments: Abebe Bikila, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, and Ali vs. Foreman specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Starting the discussion from the very beginning, the following data should be considered. Abebe Bikila was a 28-year-old member of Emperor Haile Selassieââ¬â¢s bodyguard. He came to the Olympic Games in Rome with the pair of running shoes which were ruined one month before the games. The desire to participate in the marathon was that great that even the absence of the running shoes was not the reasons for refusing from the action. Abebe Bikila started his running with everyone and was the first to come to the final spot. When the result was announced and when everyone saw that the men was barefoot all were amazed. It is impossible to disagree with that opinion as a person run barefoot without considering the pave and other difficulties and barriers which were created on his way. Abebe Bikila is a person everyone should consider as a role model. Abebe Bikila had a great desire to complete his task, to do what he planned without looking at the difficulties. This is what people are to do. Abebe Bikila became the symbol of Rome and the Olympic Games of 1960. Many people might do the same in their dreams, however, they would never do it in reality, but Abebe Bikila dared and has done it. The significance of this act lies in many specific issues. First of all, Abebe Bikila showed the problems of the developing countries. The financial situation and the absence of the simplest things of the first need is the real problem of such poor countries as Ethiopia. Moreover, Abebe Bikila showed that everything is possible, one should just have a desire. It is essential t hat the result of Abebe Bikila was the best for him personally, moreover, it was the best internationally. However, this result was dismissed widely as everyone considered it as impossible. The next when Olympic Games took place he was taken ill with appendicitis and underwent surgery. Unfortunately, in 1968 Bikila appeared in a car accident and left confined to a wheelchair. However, even this fact did not preven this person from Olympic Games. He ââ¬Å"he won gold in a 25km cross-country sledge competition in Norway in 1970â⬠(Martin ââ¬Å"Abebe Bikilaâ⬠). The desire of this person to represent his country at the Olympic Games was not ruined. Remembering Abebe Bikila, the 2010 Rome marathon took place to honor the action of this great person. Looking at his desire to go in for sports, his strong will for victory, everyone should get something from this case.Advertising Looking for essay on health medicine? Let's see if we can help you! The action of Abebe Bikila has proven that the dream is closer than one think, it is just important to strive for it, train and try to do it more and more. There are not many people as Abebe Bikila. Most of us would stop on the way to our dream, however, this in not correct. We should remember that only we have the key to our success and lengthy training and strong will are the only essential conditions for gaining our goal. Tommie Smith and John Carlos were the gold and silver winners of the award for running 200m in 1968 in Mexico city during Olympic Games. Standing barefoot upon the victory platform, during the playing of the ââ¬Å"Star Spangled Bannerâ⬠, they each raised one hand, covered by a black glove, in a Black Power salute. This gesture was a desire to pay attention of the society to the conditions of black people in the United States. However, the organizers of the Olympic Games refused to understand it. Having stated that this act went against the ideals and norms of the Olympic Games, caused the two athletes to be expelled from the Games. Olympic Games were created to show that all people were equal and the decision of the domestic problems by means of this event was not correct. Generally speaking, the action made by Tommie Smith and John Carlos acted in accordance to their desire. They felt that no matter what they say they are not going to be heard in their country. The desire to act in the way they did was a guarantee to be heard. Trying to act in favor of ââ¬Å"justice, dignity, equality and peaceâ⬠(Martin ââ¬Å"Tommie Smith and John Carlosâ⬠), Tommie Smith and John Carlos understood that heir action may be incorrectly understood. I believe that the desire to win was motivated by the desire to show the whole world that the USA is a country which has the discrimination problem and such international event is just the only way to say about it to the whole world. Not everyone would give a victory for the national problem, but Tommie Smith and John Carlos did. Expressing the pain of all African-Americans of the USA, these two persons sacrificed their fame in sports to the fame in social affairs. It is not easy to get gold and silver during the Olympic Games and Tommie Smith and John Carlos acted really bravely. These people deserve recognition and respect. From the first sight, their look does not seem deserving attention, however, this is not so.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Olympic Moments: Abebe Bikila, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, and Ali vs. Foreman specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Having raised hands in black gloves at the Olympic Games, they showed that even though the USA has many social problems, that black peop le are pressed and discriminated, they still have the power and if no one tries to stop this inequality in the USA black Americans are strong enough to do it. Tommie Smith and John Carlos wanted to show the American society first of all that having an opportunity to win the Olympic Games, they are ready to fight for their right not only at the sports arena. Therefore, the action of Tommie Smith and John Carlos may be considered from two angles. First of all, they violated the rules and the norms of the Olympic Games, however, this was the final stage of despair when being pressed fro years, black Americans began to express their dissatisfaction. This act was really important for the whole America society, for both black and white representatives. The black minority has shown that they are ready to fight. Moreover, this was not just the notification, it was the provocation. The final aim of this act was achieved and even though neither Tommie Smith nor John Carlos received their awar ds, they got much more from those Olympic Games. The boxing fight Ali vs. Foreman called ââ¬ËRumble in the Jungleââ¬â¢ in 1974 is considered as the greatest fight in the history of boxing. The prehistory of this event is as follows, Muhammad Ali was a great boxer, however, being 32 he wanted to regain the world heavyweight title from George Foreman. George Foreman, in his turn, was unbeaten in 40 fights. Everyone waited for that match and at the same time each one was afraid of that match as no one knew who was going to be at the ring and what the outcome of the fight would be. T is possible to dwell upon the reasons of that match for hors. The desire of the greatest boxer of all times to show that he is the greatest and the desire of the winner to become the greatest one having beaten Muhammad Ali are just the prepositions. 35 years have passed, however, that fight is considered as the best one. 15 rounds passed. 15 strongest and the most tense rounds in the whole history of boxing were the most tense for both, the supporters of Ali and Foreman. Each round brought new feelings and excitement, each round brought new worrying and despair. However, each round also brought the hope for victory. It was impossible to remain careless while watching the boxing. The final round could be the last for one of them, when one of the fighters was almost blind and another one was really exhausted. The finish of the fight was a relief for all, the fighters and the audience. It is impossible to remember the same spectaculars fight as this one.Advertising Looking for essay on health medicine? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Muhammad Ali and George Foreman fought for the death not for the live having forgetting sometimes that they were just the competitors in sports. Aggression and cold calculation were the main supporters of the fight. Boxing is not just the fight of two people, it is the competition when two strong souls appear in one place and one of them should leave. Boxing is not the desire to beat the competitor, the philosophy of boxing is more complicated that one may think. Boxing is the desire to become the winner, however, this is more than just a fight. The strength of will and the desire to win should support each of the boxers. Muhammad Ali and George Foreman both showed great desire for victory. The rounds they fought were remembered and many generations ahead are going to view the fight to try to become as great as these boxers. In conclusion, this event has come in the history as one of the greatest boxing matches in the history of sports. Being called ââ¬Å"rumble in the jungleâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢re still in awe of Muhammad Ali and George Foremanâ⬠) this fight supports the expression. This was like the rumble where two tigers of lions appeared in the fight trying to show who was the best. The fight declared that Muhammad Ali was the best, however, watching the fight more and more it becomes obvious that many moments may be discussed and the greatness of the match is declared as a result of the work of two boxers, therefore, the title is not important in the case. Once a documentary filmmaker Ken Burns said the following, ââ¬Å"The future (of sports) lies behind usâ⬠. The first look at this phrase makes people disagree with it, however, a closer consideration of an issue change ones mind. As for me, I am sure that the future of the sports lies behind us as sports depends on the actions which have already been made. Different hockey and football leagues are based on the rules which have been implemented before. Various kinds of sports and the for mat according to which each of the games is going to be conducted have also been declared before. Therefore, the future of the sports is the issue which has been declared before. Even the actions people make right now will be the part when the future of the sports is going to be stated. Considering the future of sports as the contribution of the past, it is essential to consider such global events as Olympic Games. These games have been invented many centuries ago and nowadays the medals and awards received at this specific event still remain the most essential for many people. History remembers many periods of time, events, political regimes, etc.; however, Olympic Games remain as one of the most important events. Rules and format of this event has been developed for many centuries. Different countries became acquainted with the Olympic Games and nowadays this is an international event which takes place each four years and attracts more and more participants and spectaculars than e ver. Therefore, the Olympic Games event was promoted many centuries ago. And the statement about the behind lie of future is correct. Moreover, kind of sports has personal leagues and championships. Each of these championships has its history of creation. Some of these stories are simple, others are created for the memory or honor of someone. This is exactly the case when the future of sports is created in the past. Sports championships like human lives have history and this history is connected with people. These people worked hard for the benefit of different kinds of sports. Sportsmen, coaches, sponsors and other activists who took part in past sports championships contributed to the present sports and benefited to the future one. This is exactly the case. The whole human life is created out of the part. No future is possible without the past history. The sports is the sequence of events which have been invented in the paste, developed and changed during some period of time, was based on some particular plans and only the future generations are able to make those plans come true. I am sure that future of sports is impossible without its past destinations, however, the past would not also be that great if the future plans were not made. Therefore, the past and the future of sports are closely interconnected. Moreover, the future of the sports depends on its past and it cannot be refused. The considered cases of Abebe Bikila, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, and Ali vs. Foreman are not the only notable events in the history of sports, however, these events were essential to the history of their development. Each kind of sports has its own event which has made it essential for society as not just the healthy activity, but as the specific social event and this event has created the reputation of the event having made it popular and interesting for the future generations. Race Essay Example
Race Essay Example Race Essay Race Essay This topic always baffles me because every time I hear African-Americans speak about this and degrade other skin tones, I think to myself how the slave mentality is still present. Recently took a test by Project Implicit entitled Light Skin Dark Skin IA T. After answered some questions that basically asked you on how o you feel around different skin tones or who do you perceive is more scary looking by their skin tone, my results suggested that I have a strong automatic preference for Dark Skin compared to Light Skin. My reaction to this test I really didnt agree because honestly, I am not a person who judges you by your skin tone because I feel that there are good and bad people in all skin tones. Growing up around Black people all my life has been somewhat not a good experience. I did not embrace the confidence in my skin tone because I am dark skin, until I went to Prairie View A University. All my life as encountered with how Light Skin people were better, they have better hair, and they can play outside longer. Dark Skin people had to act, dress, and just be way above the norm so that you can get the title of, He/she looks good to be Dark Skin. This whole unnecessary issue started hundreds of years ago during slavery where Africans were constantly told that their skin was ugly. White people thought that they way they looked were superior. In other words, white people had a sense of ethnocentrism, the tendency to regard ones own ethnic group and culture as superior to others and to live that its customs and way of life are the standards by which other cultures should be judged. The results of this test will influence my future interactions with others in my career choice because I will treat all people with respect, no matter what color they are. To be honest you will find smart and dumb people in every race, skin tone, shape, religion or size. We allow society to influence and define on what true beauty should look like. As a Black people we really need to stop discriminating against our own selves because it is keeping our minds in bondage of a slave mentality. The next test I took was Gay relationships tend to be more egalitarian, in part because same-sex couples dont divide work along traditional gender lines. Gay couples also report less conflict and more happiness in their relationships. And because gay couples often lack the support of family members, they tend to receive social support from an extended network of friends. One of the most notable findings was that by nearly every measure, same-sex couples reported higher levels of happiness in their relationships than straight couples. Gay couples ported far less conflict than heterosexual couples and higher levels of intimacy. Gay couples were more likely to feel that they could confide in their partners, experience high levels of affection and be happier with their sex lives. One reason same-sex couples may report more satisfaction and less conflict is that their relationships tend to be less defined by traditional roles. Men, gay or straight, often find it easier to communicate and share perspective with other men. Women typically find communication easier with other women. From as far back as anyone can remember marriage has always been something that everyone has done or looked forward to as a young child. Sure, back then, marriage was between a man and a woman, and being gay or lesbian was a secret that was well kept. Now times have changed, where being gay or lesbian is not something to be ashamed of or kept secret but to celebrate whom you are and where people are starting to be a little more open to changes. Granted, there is a lot of discrimination against people every/here we look; may it be against a race of people, a disabled person, or a certain social class, and people have all these different seasons for why they discriminate against these groups. However, when it comes to discriminating against gays and lesbians, the only thing people like to throw in their faces is that it goes against the Bible. This is their only argument, God says it is wrong and it is an abomination so case closed, A. Describe the results of the tests, B. Explain your reaction to the results,

Aged Care Centre Cost Analysis and Cost Management
In the contemporary world, cost consciousness is increasing among project team managers. Accordingly, when desire to offer more as well as better services has to confront the restrained ability to finance extra spending, project team managers have been naturally led to a cost-benefit analysis for the decision relating to resource allocation. Policy analysts along with researchers acknowledge generally the need to employ cost-benefit analysis and hence willing to employ this analytic tool Age Care Center (ACC) service programs (Elleh, 2013). Many remain hesitant, nevertheless, to apply cost-benefit analysis as a technique for guiding policy making in ACC and posit that other analytical tools have to be sought. It is the contention of the current author that cost-benefit analysis is able to fruitfully employ in ACC field and, with the techniqueââ¬â¢s acknowledged limitations, it remains both objective and powerful tool for evaluating ACC programs. This section undertakes the cost-analysis of ACC in Australia (Heldman, 2013).à à . An array of aged care services are subsidized by the government of Australia. It is anticipated that one will contribute towards the cost of oneââ¬â¢s care in case one can afford where oneââ¬â¢s personal circumstance permits. One could be wonder how much it costs to enter into an ACC. A residential care fee estimator has, however, been availed to assist in the estimation of what ACC costs he will be required to pay. Strong protection are available to make sure that care is reasonably priced in ACC for everybody. The government of Australian undertakes to regulate the maximum cost on may have to pay. This is utilized as a contribution towards oneââ¬â¢s daily living costs like meals, laundry, cleaning, cooling and heating. Every person entering the ACC can be asked to make a payment for this fee. The highest basic daily fee for fresh inhabitants as well as interval inhabitants is pegged at $48.44 a day. The rate rises on 20 th March as well as 20 th September per annum in accordance with alterations to Age Pension. For new residents, the upper limit of the basic daily fee is eighty-five percent of the lone individual rate of basic Age Pension. Beginning 20 th September 2016, a solitary rate basic Age Pension became 797.9 dollars a fortnight, besides eighty-five percent of sole rate of basic Age Pension became 678.210 dollars a fortnight. Such fees remain in effect even when one is a member of a couple. People will know the rate they need to pay as they obtain a letter arising from Department of Human Services which confirms his highest basic daily fee which is subjected to yearly indexing on March 20 th and September 20 th in accordance with the Age Pension increases. It describes the extra payment towards ACC fees which certain individuals might be needed to remit. The DHS have a duty to work out whether one is obligated to pay such an extra cost anchored on income and assets assessments and advice the applicant of an amount. A half of a coupleââ¬â¢s merged income and assets are regarded in the determination of the means-tested care fee, irrespective of which spouse nets income or possess assets. Means-tested care fees have annual and lifetime caps. Upon hitting the cap, one ceases to pay further means-tested care fees. Any income-tested care fees paid already in a Home Care Package before touching into ACC shall as well account for oneââ¬â¢s yearly and lifespan limits. Aged care means test are assessed via such information deemed incomed and exemptions. Such information is available on the website of Department of Human Services. The residential aged care may as well affect Centrelink payments. The current means-tested fee is pegged at $25,939.92 per annum, or $62,255.85 over a lifetime. One has to be given an account of how his income will be affected by this fee before making a major financial decision like selling a family home. The services of a financial adviser is necessary to assist in working out the best strategy for oneââ¬â¢s own condition. ACC program requires one to pay accommodation fees in the facility. Certain individuals may have their respective costs of accommodation paid fully or partially by government of Australia whereas others residents will have to make payments for accommodation cost agreed with the ACC. The Department of Human Services has a duty to advise which arrangement applies to a person on the basis of an assessment of his asset and income. For a partner of a couple, a 1/2 of the merged assets and income are accounted for in the determination of a partnerââ¬â¢s eligibility for assistance by the government with accommodation costs when one enters ACC, irrespective of the partner earning the income or owning the asset. The average cost of accommodation is around $350,000 to $400,000, but it could go higher where one is living in an expensive city such as Melbourne or Sydney or for a room with private bathroom. A financial Adviser will help choose between a lump sum payments (Refundable Accommodation Deposit-RAD) or Daily Accommodation Payments (DAP) or a merger of both. DAP remain essentially interest payments on an outstanding accommodation payment amount, whereas RAD is an interest-free loan to the facility that one will get back when he leaves or will be part of his estate when one passes on. Extra fees can apply where a person goes for an advanced accommodation standard or extra services. Additional service cost are applicable to such inhabitants who are in additional service facilities.à Such places are under regulation and purposed to capture a sophisticated standard of services or accommodation. ACC that have devoted additional service facilities remain presently needed to publish their respective additional service costs on their website called ââ¬Å"My Aged Careâ⬠, along with additional relevant materials provided by them to potential inhabitants. Additional extra care as well as services along with related costs remain under regulations. Such additional costs are under the agreements between the resident and ACC care giver. Such fees range across ACC. A personââ¬â¢s ACC care provide is able to give one the details of such services, like Foxtel, and hairdressing alongside other applicable fees (Kerzner, 2013).à à It is increasingly tricky to navigate the minefield of taking members of family into ACC care. There is a need to decode the loopholes that can potentially save one heartache and money. Making arrangements for the aged care for ageing parent that is not surviving at home could become emotionally demanding experience coupled with the added stress to navigate the unfamiliar as well as complex territory of welfare system of Australia to ensure one is undertaking correct action financially. An adult child will automatically get herself trapped in a converse responsibility of care as well as decision maker at such a time, facing choices like whether to engage in the sale of a family house or not to pay for ACC care cost of residential care, a matter which seemingly is never a straightforward decision (George, Harris & Mitchell, 2012). The figure might be so challenging-aged-care accommodation bonds averaged 213,000.0 dollars countrywide in the year 2009, however, they are usually between 350,000.0 dollars and 450,000.0 dollars for homes located in large cities. At the leading edge, the prod one million dollar for a hotel-kind room in prestigious Sydney site. Further, however, nothing remains the way it appears and there exist the rationale certain individuals might choose to make payment for the high bond. Surely, such undertakings become substantial financial decisions and remains second biggest financial decision made when considering ACC care. Several people have ended up making such decisions in a hurry without considering the any financial implications and opportunities attached. To this end, an adult child needs to own the possibly stroppy but together essential discussion with their respective elderly parents alongside household consultants (Ji & Yao, 2014). People who seek for ACC care encounter three categories of care including high care, low care, along with extra services.à Low-care accommodation are accompanied with ââ¬Ëpersonal careââ¬â¢ facilities like assist with eating alongside bathing. Higher-care integrates services of nursing into this mix along with extreme needs. It should, however, never be substituted for extra services that describes a higher standard of accommodation, food, along with additional hotel-style services (Marià ±o et al., 2016). Many people, unfortunately think it is merely a substance of placing their designation down at the ACC home, however, it really goes beyond that. Key to unlocking the ACC care system is ACAT form from Aged Care Assessment Team which determines the type of care and facility. This form is essential in helping one to attract the government subsidy. Managing cost in an ACC facility calls for earlier planning so as not to leave the decisions for the children. One must focus first on how to benefit from the government subsidies (Ebbesen & Hope, 2013).à Before choosing the best quality of care, one needs to work out his finances. A person has to factor in his upfront and ongoing costs along with having something put away for additional expenses which emerges, one will be able to figure out exactly what he can afford- and begin looking for ACC which meets his needs within his budget (Catanio, Armstrong & Tucker, 2013). Getting financial advice is essential in managing aged care cost. The guidance of a Financial Adviser who is specialized in aged care make one to have support needed to manage government an aged care home-derived paperwork. The Financial Adviser will further work out the right payment alternatives for the clientââ¬â¢s situation, while concurrently making sure there is a steady cash flow to account for the clientââ¬â¢s immediate needs. What is more, Financial Adviser can guide his client through the biggest financial decisions he needs to make. This will be right from selling the family home to planning his estate. The Financial Adviser will assist one understand the longer run impacts of such cost and decisions, including the impacts on his pension as well as aged care means-tested fees. Catanio, J. The Chinese Revolution as inspired by Marxist Theory Essay
The Chinese Revolution as inspired by Marxist Theory - Essay Example After this breakdown, an all-out war between these two forces resumed. Ultimately, the Peopleââ¬â¢s Liberation Army was victorious, and on October 1, 1949, Mao Zedong proclaimed the Peopleââ¬â¢s Republic of China. The importance and significance of the Chinese Revolution is integral, and in order to come to a clearer and more knowledgeable understanding on this subject matter, certain political and economic issues must be addressed. As well, the historical factors and lessons learned from this occurrence must be included. The aim of this paper is to discuss all of this, along with other relevant and significant issues in regards to the Chinese Revolution. This is what will be dissertated in the following. The political and economic institutions of Revolutionary China (1949-1976) were very much inspired by Marxist theory on the transition from capitalism to socialism in several different ways. In China, Mao Zedong is remembered for many things. He is revered as the greatest of revolutionaries. However he has also been considered as among the worst politicians. ââ¬Å"He knew well how to make a revolution, but once in power he could not put his love of revolution aside for the sake of governing.â⬠(Comptonââ¬â¢s Living Encyclopedia, 1995). Mao Zedong was born in Shaoshan, Hunan Province on December 26, 1893. During the Revolution of 1911-12 Mao served in the army for six months. Afterwards, he graduated from the First Provincial Normal School in Changsha in 1918. He was then sent to Peking University where he became embroiled in the Revolutionary May Fourth Movement. It was in 1921 when Mao helped found the Chinese Communist party, and it was only two years after this that he l eft work to become a full-time revolutionary. At the time of its founding in 1921, the Chinese Communist party was focused on organizing such things as

Rates of Reaction :: GCSE Chemistry Coursework Investigation
The affect of varying hydrochloric acid concentration of on the rate of reaction with sodium thiosulphate Background knowledge:The equation of this reaction is Na2S2O2+ 2HCl à ± 2NaCl + H2O + SO2+ S A reaction is a process by which a substance or substances change to produce a new substance or substances. Rate of reaction is the speed at which products are formed and reactants disappear during a chemical reaction. The rate will be measured by following the production of sulphur. The rate of reaction is affected by temperature, surface area, concentration and catalysts. These are the affecting factors. In a reaction, the particles of the reagent must come together and collide before the reaction can take place. This is called the collision theory, particles must collide before they can react, and the colliding particles must contain enough energy to cause bonds to brake. Apparatus: * Beaker * 'Log its' light meter * stand * black card * syringe * glass delivery tube * tripod * measuring cylinder * stop watch Method: We decided to use a 'loggits' light meter to follow the precipitation of sulphur on the basis that the light passing through the solution would decrease in intensity as the reaction proceeds. We will firstly cover the beaker with card, leaving a 2cm gap at the bottom of the beaker to allow light to pass through the solution. Secondly we would place the 'loggits' light meter directly above the beaker (the meter will have the bottom half of it covered with the card to prevent any alien light from affecting the light intensity of the light passing through the water) Preliminary: After the first trial we had to change the way in which we covered the beaker with the black card because we found that the amount of light passing through the solution from all angles was uncontrollable, because we were using a natural source of light (the sun). Instead of leaving a 1cm gap from the bottom of the beaker, our solution was to cover the whole beaker and cut 2 arches, so that we could direct the required amount of light into the specific area of the beaker. Secondly we will use a lamp, covered with 2 sheets of A4 paper to achieve a constant source of light. The Initial light intensity reading will be between 40% and 45%. Procedure: Step 1) Set up the stand to hold the log its light meter above the beaker (fig i). Then place the beaker beneath the meter. Form a shielding from the surrounding light by using the black card, doing so by forming a cone around the beaker and the bottom half of the light

Rhetorical Analysis for ââ¬ÅWays of Talkingââ¬Â Essay
The optimist sees the rose and not its thornsà ¾ the pessimist stares at the thorns, oblivious of the roseâ⬠, said Kahil Gibran, a Lebanese artist, poet, and writer. In other words, optimists see the more favorable side of the flower, the beauty of the rose, while pessimists focus on the negative parts, blinding their view of the beauty. Ha Jinââ¬â¢s poem relates to this because he illustrates the change from a pessimist to an optimist. In his poem ââ¬Å"Ways of Talkingâ⬠, Jin explicates the beauty that arises once we rid of our negative minds. Jin uses the word ââ¬Å"griefâ⬠to explain that we used to choose to lament, then we couldnââ¬â¢t help to, and finally we stopped doing so. Why did he incorporate ââ¬Å"griefâ⬠? Why not ââ¬Å"mourningâ⬠or ââ¬Å"bereavementâ⬠? Grief is a response to loss, as is mourningà ¾ although, mourning results in a loss that produces a strong emotional response, one much stronger than grief . Grief is used because Jin is getting across that whatever causes it can be overlookedà ¾ we need only to find the positive in losses. He includes repetition of ââ¬Å"talking about/expressing griefâ⬠to elucidate the stages of choosing to focus on negatives, being able to only see the negatives, and deciding to stop focusing on negatives.
